Terms of Service
We keep this simple because you should actually read it.
Here is the short version. The full terms follow below.
- You own your writing. Always. We never claim rights to the content you analyze or the authorship proofs you create.
- Use the tool for honest purposes. WritersLogic helps real writers understand and improve their work. Do not use it to plagiarize or deceive.
- We are honest about what the tool does. WritersLogic provides writing analysis and authorship verification. Neither guarantees any specific outcome.
- Community contributions become shared work. If you submit to community features, other users will see it and winning entries become permanent.
- Talk to us first if there is a problem. We prefer to resolve disputes informally before anyone involves lawyers.
This summary is not legal advice and does not replace the full terms below. Please read the complete terms.
1. What You're Agreeing To
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and WritersLogic, Inc. ("we," "us," or "Company"). They cover your use of everything we offer: the WritersLogic website and web app, WritersProof desktop application, our APIs, and all related services (collectively, the "Service"). WritersProof is a product of WritersLogic, Inc.
By using the Service, you are agreeing to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or with a prominent notice in the app. If you keep using the Service after changes take effect, you are agreeing to the updated Terms.
2. Who Can Use This
To use the Service, you must:
- Be at least 13 years old (or 16 in the European Economic Area)
- Have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms
- Not be prohibited by law from using the Service
- Not have been previously suspended or banned
If you are using the Service on behalf of a company or organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity to these Terms.
3. What the Service Does
WritersLogic offers multiple tools for writers who care about their craft and their rights. Here is what each one does.
WritersLogic (Web Application)
A writing analysis tool that runs entirely in your browser.
- Real-time text analysis and writing quality insights
- Sentence-level pattern detection and suggestions
- Writing style visualization and voice profiling
- Optional enhanced analysis features
- Community features for collaborative writing
WritersProof (Desktop Application)
A cryptographic authorship proof tool that runs locally on your machine.
- Keystroke timing capture for authorship evidence
- Sequential Work Function (SWF) proof generation
- Document fingerprinting and hashing
- Optional timestamp anchoring to public trust services
- Written Authorship Report (WAR) generation
All core analysis and proof generation happens locally on your device. The Service does not guarantee any specific outcome regarding authorship disputes or writing assessments. See the Disclaimers section for details.
4. Your Account
Creating an account
Some features require an account. When you create one, please use accurate information. Your email is how we communicate with you about your account, and inaccurate details can prevent us from helping you if something goes wrong.
Keeping it secure
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your login credentials secure
- Everything that happens under your account
- Telling us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access ([email protected])
Closing your account
You can close your account at any time by contacting [email protected]. We may also suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. If we do, we will tell you why (unless prohibited by law or ongoing investigation).
5. Acceptable Use
We built WritersLogic for writers who want to understand, improve, and protect their work. That is the intended use.
What the tool is for
- Analyzing your own authentic writing to understand patterns and improve your craft
- Creating verifiable proof that you wrote something
- Educators and researchers studying writing analysis and authorship verification
- Content creators protecting and documenting their original work
- Professionals refining their writing voice
- Journalists documenting the provenance of their reporting
What you must not do
Do not use the Service to:
- Plagiarize or misrepresent authorship of any content
- Circumvent academic integrity policies through deception
- Disguise AI-generated content as human-written for fraudulent purposes
- Submit work as your own when it was substantially created by AI
- Violate applicable laws or third-party rights
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
- Attempt unauthorized access to any systems or data
- Use automated scraping or bots without permission
- Reverse engineer or decompile the Service
- Harass, abuse, or harm other users
Violating these rules may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account. In serious cases, we may report the violation to relevant authorities.
6. Your Content
You own your writing. Always. We never claim rights to your content.
Since all analysis in WritersLogic happens locally in your browser, and all proof generation in WritersProof happens on your local machine, we never even see your content — much less claim ownership of it.
The only exception is content you voluntarily submit to community features (see Section 7). Even then, you retain your copyright — you just grant us a license to display it as part of the community feature.
About feedback: If you send us suggestions about the product, we may use those ideas to improve the Service. By providing feedback, you grant us a royalty-free license to use it. You are not obligated to send us feedback.
7. Community Features
We offer community features where users can share writing and vote on contributions. These have additional rules because they involve shared, public content.
Submission rules
- Contributions must be your original work
- Contributions must meet any stated length or format requirements
- No hate speech, explicit content, or illegal material
- Submission limits may apply per voting period
What you are granting us
By submitting to a community feature, you grant WritersLogic, Inc. a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, display, and distribute your contribution as part of the community feature.
You retain your copyright. This license means we can show your submission to other users and include winning entries in the final collective work. It does not give us the right to use your content outside of the community feature context.
Voting and prizes
- Voting rules are specified for each community feature
- You cannot vote for your own submission
- Winners receive prizes as promotional codes (non-transferable, no cash value, expire after 90 days)
- Winners are responsible for any applicable taxes
- We reserve the right to disqualify entries that violate guidelines
Moderation
We can remove, edit, or refuse any contribution that violates these Terms or community guidelines. Repeated violations may result in permanent exclusion from community features.
8. Subscriptions and Payments
Plans and pricing
We offer free and paid plans. Current pricing is shown on our website. We may change pricing with 30 days' notice.
Billing
- Paid subscriptions are billed in advance, either monthly or annually
- Payment is processed by our payment provider (currently Stripe)
- By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges to your payment method
Cancellation and renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically. You can cancel anytime through your account settings or by contacting [email protected]. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep access until then.
Refunds
We handle refund requests on a case-by-case basis. We generally offer full refunds within 14 days of your initial purchase if the Service does not meet your expectations. After 14 days, refunds are at our discretion. Contact [email protected].
Free tier
The free tier has usage limits and does not include all features. We may modify or discontinue the free tier at any time, but we will give reasonable notice if we do.
9. Intellectual Property
What belongs to us
The Service itself — its code, design, features, documentation, and branding — belongs to WritersLogic, Inc. and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or sell any part of the Service without our written permission.
What belongs to you
Your writing, your authorship proofs, your data. Since analysis and proof generation run locally, we never even have access to it. You retain all rights. See Section 6 for details on community submissions.
10. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party providers for authentication, payments, and hosting. Your use of those services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies.
Your own API keys
If you use your own API keys for optional enhanced features (such as AI-powered analysis), you should know:
- You are responsible for any charges from those API providers
- Your use must comply with the provider's terms of service
- Your keys are stored only in your browser's temporary storage — we never see them
- We are not responsible for issues arising from third-party API usage
- Never share your API keys with anyone else
11. Disclaimers
We believe in being upfront about what WritersLogic can and cannot do.
The service is provided "as is"
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. This includes implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any analysis results.
What WritersLogic does not guarantee
To be specific:
- We cannot guarantee that content analyzed will achieve any particular outcome with third-party tools or reviewers
- Our analysis scores are our own methodology and may not correlate with other tools
- Following suggestions does not guarantee any specific result
- Writing assessment technology evolves; results may vary over time
What WritersProof does not guarantee
- Authorship proofs may not be accepted by every court, institution, or third party
- SWF proofs and timestamp anchors are evidence, not a legal guarantee of authorship
- The Service cannot prevent or resolve all authorship disputes
- Timestamping does not constitute legal protection in all jurisdictions
Not professional advice
WritersLogic is a tool for writers. It is not legal advice, academic guidance, or professional consulting. If you need advice about a specific legal or academic situation, please consult a qualified professional.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, WritersLogic, Inc. and its officers, directors, employees, and agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including:
- Loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities
- Academic penalties, disciplinary actions, or reputational harm
- Employment consequences or professional repercussions
- Outcomes from third-party tools or assessments
- Reliance on analysis results or suggestions
- Service interruptions or data loss
Liability cap: Our total liability for all claims related to these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) $100 USD.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. If that applies to you, these limitations may not fully apply.
13. Dispute Resolution
We strongly prefer resolving problems through conversation rather than litigation.
Step 1: Talk to us
Before filing any formal dispute, please contact us at [email protected]. We will work with you to resolve the issue informally within 60 days. Most problems can be solved this way.
Step 2: Binding arbitration
If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, it will be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Commercial Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will take place in Delaware, United States.
Class action waiver
You agree to resolve disputes individually, not as part of a class action or representative proceeding.
Exception
Either party may seek injunctive relief in court for infringement of intellectual property rights or other irreparable harm.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
- Notify you by email for material changes
- Display a prominent notice in the app
We will not make changes retroactively. If a change significantly reduces your rights, we will give you the option to close your account. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
15. The Legal Bits
The following provisions are standard legal terms. We include them because they are necessary for a complete legal agreement, not because we expect them to come up often.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any legal action not subject to arbitration must be brought in the federal or state courts of Delaware.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest of the Terms remain in effect. The invalid provision will be modified to the minimum extent needed to make it enforceable.
Waiver
If we do not enforce a particular provision, that does not mean we waive our right to enforce it later. Any waiver must be in writing and signed by us.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless WritersLogic, Inc. from claims, damages, losses, and expenses arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
Force majeure
We are not liable for failures or delays caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, pandemics, internet outages, or government actions.
Assignment
You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations (for example, in a corporate acquisition) without restriction.
Export compliance
You agree to comply with all applicable export and import laws. You represent that you are not located in a US-embargoed country and are not on any US government restricted-parties list.
Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and WritersLogic, Inc. regarding the Service. They supersede all prior agreements and communications.
